“If I could count the twinkling stars, I’d start with all the brightest ones. But just for now, I’ll stare and stare. And as I learn my mum is there.”
This captivating read by Martin Thomas and illustrated by Ag Jatkowska has a lovely message for this time of year; that our mums are such an important part of growing and learning throughout our childhood. And with Mother’s Day coming up on 26th March, we thought it was the perfect time to review this book on the Boolino blog.
My Mum is There is a soothing rhyming story. Each page has a short verse to read and is accompanied by colourful illustrations of mum and her little elephant as they go about their day. They go swimming, go for a walk in the park, watch the stars, take a nap and at all times the little elephant is saying that whatever happens is ok because, “my mum is there”.
This book is aimed at 0-5 year olds and with its lovely rhyming text it’s perfect for a bedtime story. Mums will enjoy reading to their child, and children will enjoy the heart-warming illustrations.
When reading this book to my 3-year-old goddaughter, she enjoyed explaining what the little elephant was doing in each picture and spotting when the elephants teddy bear appeared on each page (and it’s not every page, so we couldn’t get complacent about it!).
I think that if you are sentimental, like me, you will be very touched by the message in this story. I certainly felt like calling my mum after reading it. I would definitely recommend having this one in your book collection.
The lovely team at Wacky Bee Books have three copies of My Mum is There to giveaway in time for Mother’s Day. If you would like to be in with a chance of winning one just enter the Gleam raffle below. There are lots of different ways to enter, and the competition closes 16th March so there is time to give the book as a gift this Mother's Day!
