Valued reading Awards

Last Monday, I spent the morning in Madrid with the some of the winners of the first edition of the Valued Reading Awards, organized by Boolino and Concapa

The main goal of this new initiative was to motivate children between 3 and 16 years to read and share their reading experience with their parents. Thanks to the support of Everest, one of Spain’s main publishing groups, and 24symbols, participants received a book for free and could win fantastic prizes.

More than 4.000 children participated in this first edition and, during the awards celebration last Monday, I had the honor to award together with Madrid’s mayor, Ana Botella, the national and local winners of Madrid. I thought that launching this initiative was worth enough when I looked at the cheerful eyes of the children. And, one more time, we learned that parents play the key role fostering reading at home.

books make me laugh and mourn, travel to distant, sometimes imaginary places, make me feel different things.

The moment that raised our emotion was without any doubt the speech of Paula (8), winner of the first national prize: “I am reading because books make me laugh and mourn, travel to distant, sometimes imaginary places, make me feel different things. Also, I always see my mother with a book in her hands". I could not have said it better…

Thanks to everybody who supported this first edition, more to come…

Yours, Sven
