Christmas is creeping up on us, and here at Boolino we’ve compiled a list of our top 5 activities to get us in the Christmas spirit!
This can be as simple as making streamers, cutting up bits of paper to loop together and letting the children decorate them with drawings, glitter or stickers – whatever you have in the house!
Making tree decorations is always fun and is something to keep and hang on the tree year after year. You can use felt to cut out Christmas patterns and stick together, decorating with sequins that sparkle under the fairy lights, or if you are good at sewing you can even try stuffing them with cotton wool to make the pattern become 3D. Salt dough is also great to use for tree ornaments, have a look online to find an easy recipe and get sculpting and baking!
Make an Advent Activity Tree
Instead of the traditional chocolate advent calendar, why not make an activity tree! Using a branch, or something that’s easy to hang from as the tree, cut out 24 stars and write a different activity on each one. These can be attached using ribbon or string and hung around the tree, each with a different date written on it. Every day leading to Christmas the children have to check what new activity is written. You can keep it nice and simple and then maybe one day it could be a surprise visit to Santa’s Grotto!
Read a Christmas Classic
There’s nothing better than a good read, and with the winter weather it’s a great excuse to find a new book to read. No matter your age, there are plenty of books to put you in the Christmas spirit. One of our favourites is of course A Christmas Carol but for something a bit alternative, why not try Nuddy Ned’s Christmas! We also have some great accompanying activity sheets to go with this book, so children can really bring the story to life. http://www.boolino.co.uk/micros/donwload/42/
Another fun activity is baking. Why not try making a selection of Christmas cookies that can be shared with family and friends? Or maybe there is a party or Christmas celebration coming up that the children would like to decorate cupcakes for. We love using Pinterest to inspire us for baking ideas, but you might find the kids already have plenty!
Watch your favourite Christmas Movie
There are so many to choose from, and at this time of year you will find most of the them on the TV, so why not schedule in a time to sit down with your family or friends, make some popcorn (or maybe munch on those Christmas cookies!) treat yourself to a hot chocolate and sit back and relax for a few hours.
Maybe you have your own favourite activities to do, to put you in the Christmas spirit, we would love to hear it, so feel free to get in touch!
